We have been working on self portraits. We worked hard to get our features in the correct places and thought about what our hair and eyebrows actually look like.

Fabulous Friday Problem Solving
In Room 6 we have been working on problem solving. There are many different ways to tackle a problem. These include:
- drawing a diagram or a picture
- using equipment or materials
We realised that we needed to double check in case we had made a mistake and then change our working if necessary.
We shared our thinking and listened to how everyone worked on the problem.

Fantastic Fractions
Today we thought about how to find half of something.
We started with a piece of string. Some people made a guess where half could be and some people tried to use a ruler. Kayley suggested we fold the string into two equal pieces. We tried this and were able to work out where half way was.
Here we are looking at the fraction pieces.

Room 6 Class Treaty
We talked about what would help us to learn more effectively in our classroom. Room 6 came up with the following ideas.
In room 6 we work and play
well together because we follow these class rules.
- · we share
- · we respect other people
- · we listen when other people are talking
- · we put our hand up when we want to share an idea
- · we walk in the classroom and on the red bricks
- · we sit quietly especially when we are working
- · we take turns with the things in the classroom
The children took these photos to help illustrate some of our rules.

Room 6 News Day
In Room 6 we have a weekly news sharing time on a Monday morning. Please talk to your child over the weekend about what they would like to share at this time.
Some suggestions include:
Some suggestions include:
- a special event from the weekend
- a hobby that your child enjoys
- a prize or certificate won recently
- family news such as a new pet, bedroom decoration or a visit from friends or relatives
Encourage your child to think about the details of the event or item and how to make their news interesting for the audience. Children are welcome to bring something in as a prompt or to display but anything they bring is their own responsibility.
I look forward to hearing the news.

Reading Activities
In Room 6 we do lots of different reading activities. Sometimes we make words or sentences. Sometimes we play reading games.
From next week a reader will come home every day from Monday to Thursday. This will either be a reader that has been read with the teacher or a reader from the browsing box. Readers from the browsing box are usually at an easier level than those read with the teacher.
On Fridays we read a poem together. We use the words from the poem to visualise a picture in our heads. Then we try to draw the picture.
