Beach Trip

What an amazing day we had at the beach yesterday. Thank you to all the parent help who came with us. The children have all been talking about the fun time they had. It was great to see them working together. Next week we will be doing some writing about the trip and it would be really useful if the children have had a chance to talk to you about what they did, what they enjoyed most and how they felt at the end of the day.

Paper

This term we are thinking about paper. We realised that every day we use lots and lots of paper. We use different paper for different things and we are going to be finding out why.

Undersea Art

We are working on making some undersea creatures using paper collage. First we drew a cartoon style fish, starfish, turtle or jelly fish. Then we decided on a colour collection. We used colours that were similar such as green and yellow or blue and purple. We had to make sure that we covered all of the white paper. Our next job will be to cut out the creatures and draw on the eyes.

Problem Solving

Today we worked on a simple maths word problem to test out our problem solving skills.

We discovered that there are lots of ways to get to the same answer.

Some of us created a table or chart.

Some of us drew a picture.

Some of us used materials.

We then shared our thinking with the rest of the class. We had to explain how the words and numbers in the problem helped us to solve it.  We are great at problem solving.

The Pinehill Way

Today we wrote a letter to the new Year 1 class, explaining what the Pinehill Way is all about. We have been remembering all the things that we do when we use the Pinehill Way and how this makes our school very special.

Our amazing first week

We have had an amazing first week back to school. It has been wonderful getting to know the children. Thank you for sending in the stationery, the children have been very excited to start using their new things.

This week we have thought about how we want our classroom to work and have created our class treaty. We have made Chinese lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year and have completed a "maths about me" activity.

Thank you to those who have returned the digital citizenship form. Please can you send it back next week if you have not already done so. Next week you should be getting a letter about our first trip. We will be visiting Long Bay Beach and need a number of adults to help supervise. We would love to see as many of you as possible at the beach.
