Problem Solving
In Room 6 Friday is problem solving day. We talk through the problem and look at what the question is and what type of answer we will need. Then we go away and have a go at solving the problem with a partner. Finally we get back together to talk about what we did and share our methods.
Volume and Capacity
We have been looking at volume and capacity this week.
We realised that the volume of a shape is the space that it takes up. We made as many different cuboids with a volume of 18 cubes as we could. They all looked very different, some were long and thin and others short and wide.

Next we looked at capacity. This is the space inside a shape - how much can fit in. We placed a variety of containers in order of their capacity and then tested by pouring water from one container to the other.

Friday is problem solving day
We have been working very hard to solve word problems in maths. Sometimes the maths is quite easy but understanding what is being asked is more difficult.
We encourage all the children to have a go at everything and Room 6 are amazing at taking these risks with their learning and having a go at things they find more tricky. Keep it up Room 6.

Beach Trip
What an amazing time we had at Long Bay Beach today. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came with us. The children were all extremely well behaved and we had great fun.

Recycling
Today we had a talk about recycling.
We found out about which items could be recycled, what can go in the compost and what ends up going to landfill.
Did you know that the Auckland region generates approximately enough rubbish to fill a rugby field every week?

Working on phonics
We look at different sounds and try to think of as many words with that sound as we can. Sometimes we work with a partner and sometimes on our own.
