To make the test fair we kept these things the same:
- container
- amount of water
- colour dye
- size of paper
- amount of paper dipped into the water
The only thing we changed was the type of paper. We used:
- white copy paper
- news print paper
- thin shiny card
- paper hand towel
- crepe paper
We made the following predictions:
- The card will not change.
- The card will change (we could not agree!)
- The paper towel will soak up the most water.
- The white paper will get really soaked.
- The paper will rip if you touch it after it has soaked up the water.
We were right that the paper towel soaked up the most water and the card did not change. Also the crepe paper ripped and we had to put on a new piece!
The paper towel won the paper race as it is the most absorbent. We realised that this is why we use it to dry our hands and mop up spills. If we used the shiny card it would not soak up the water at all.
