What happens to paper if it gets wet?

We decided to conduct a fair test today to answer the question "what happens to paper if it gets wet?"

We took four samples of paper; newspaper, red writing paper, green tissue paper and thick cardboard. To ensure the test was fair we made the pieces the same, or similar size.

Our predictions:

Water will spread everywhere.
Water will go through the paper.
The paper will rip.
The water will make the paper softer.
The paper will go darker.

To ensure the test was fair, we added the same amount of water to each paper and made observations of the results.

We were right about most of our predictions. The cardboard was the only one that was different. We decided this was because thick card was used to package and protect things so needed to stay strong even if it got wet.
